Core terms for the book and website

Reparations

Remedy or redress for historic or continuing wrongs; the precise legal, political and economic basis depends on the relevant claim or settlement.

Reparations entitlement

The basis on which a person or community is recognised as a beneficiary of reparatory justice. It is separate from bond ownership.

Reparation Bond

The proposed funded debt instrument through which capital would be advanced to the issuer under final contractual terms.

Latent Reparation Bond

The project's proposed unfunded precursor: a coded future commitment with £0 paid and £0 interest at the latent stage.

Face / nominal value

The stated amount represented by the bond unit. At the latent stage it is not cash already received.

Principal

Amount actually advanced under a funded debt obligation and repayable according to its terms.

Interest / return

Contractual compensation, if any, for the use of funded capital. No rate exists in the prototype.

Maturity

Date or event at which principal becomes due under final terms.

Redemption

Repayment or retirement of a funded bond according to its contractual provisions.

Default

Failure to perform an obligation defined as a default under the final contract.

Development entity

Reparation Nation Limited incubates and tests the prototype, gathers data and supporter experience, and helps expose the practical requirements for the future system.

Future operational authority / issuer

The entity that would create the funded debt obligation under final terms. The intended future international operational authority is IBIS, subject to the final lawful and institutional structure.

Bondholder

Person or entity recorded as holding the relevant bond rights under the final system; bondholding does not confer reparations entitlement.

Activation

The proposed controlled transition from unfunded latent record to funded obligation after required legal, compliance, payment, accounting and register conditions are satisfied.

Register

Controlled record of coded bond data and lifecycle events.

Reconciliation

Process of proving that payment, accounting and register evidence agree.

Repayment waterfall

Contractually defined order in which available funds are applied to obligations. The prototype waterfall remains illustrative.
